Fall 20 1 9 5 CHAIR'S MESSAGE ROB McLEOD | Chair of the Board of Directors PHOTO: FORMER IDM MINING (NOW ASCOT RESOURCES) W e are approaching the time of year when explorers from all over our province (and all over the planet!) gather in the global mineral exploration and mining hub of Vancouver. Roundup is one of the world's best technical conferences for our industry. Our annual gathering of prospectors, promoters, pilots, politicians and permitting professionals highlight the science and innovation of discovery. Also, The Gathering Place, which is a popular space for frank discussion on Indigenous engagement and consultation has positioned Roundup as a leading forum for promoting diversity and inclusion in mining and mineral exploration. Additionally, the variety of speakers and presentations from around the world, the exhibit floor, Innovation Hub, student displays and the highly popular Core Shack and Project Generators Hub are the best in the business. During 2018, stronger gold prices have encouraged further exploration throughout B.C., particularly in the central and southern Interior, as well as the Golden Triangle in northwest B.C. Several projects in these areas will advance to become our next generation of mines. We have welcomed new, global miners and explorers to our province such as: Newcrest, Couer Mining, Newmont- Goldcorp and Hochschild. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are thrilled to welcome Kendra Johnston, P.Geo as our new president and CEO. Kendra has direct experience in generating and managing exploration projects, mining finance, permitting and Indigenous consultation, she has been extensively involved in AME for almost two decades and is more than prepared to support you, our diverse membership. The board of directors has been actively engaged, working with AME staff to implement the excellent recommendations made by the Mining Jobs Task Force, which includes numerous actions to promote responsible and inclusive mineral exploration via the B.C. Regional Mining Alliance (BCRMA). Additionally, we are focused on many important issues facing our members, such as: land access and use, Interior caribou protection and ensuring that explorers have access to the capital required to discover new mineral deposits in our province. We are grateful to have such a supportive and engaged membership and look forward to a busy and productive fall and planning for an exciting 2020 at AME!
