8 | summer 2018 cmba-achc.ca CMB MAGAZINE editorialsummary Updates from the CMBA Provincial Association Members CMBA Atlantic – President James Shinners CMBA Atlantic is continuing to grow and get more involved in promoting our mortgage broker members to the general public and to other industry partners. We recently sponsored a hole at the Nova Scotia Association of Realtors (NSAR) annual golf tournament, where we had the opportunity to meet dozens of local realtors and tell them our story. We are also partnering with NSAR in the fall to sponsor their annual MLA dinner. We are looking for other similar opportunities to meet with Realtors in the other Atlantic provinces. Our growth over the last couple of years has afforded us the opportunity to hire our first staff person this summer. is person will really help CMBA Atlantic communicate better with our broker and industry partner members. Being a completely volunteer group, communication has always been a challenge for us. We are all so busy with our businesses and focusing on getting tasks done for the association that telling our membership what we have accomplished has taken a back seat. We are also working on developing a "consumer facing" website where clients can learn about why they should choose a mortgage broker along with an easy-to-use search function that enables clients to find a local mortgage broker member to help them with their mortgage needs. We will begin running our TV ads again in the fall on CBC. We are excited to begin ramping up for our 5th annual CMBA Atlantic Conference and Gala Trade Show in Halifax on October 14th and 15th. We are proud to say that our conference and trade show have been exceptionally well received by both brokers and industry partners from all four Atlantic provinces and beyond. CMBA Ontario – President Kim McKenney CMBA Ontario just held its annual general meeting and is ready for another great year. We welcomed two new board members and a new vice-president, Wes Sudsbury. e board has chosen to keep me in place as the president and Geoff Carnavale as past president for another year. Our next big event is Summerfest, to be held on August 16th in Niagara Falls. is year, WIMI will be hosting an aernoon educational session and awards on August 15th before the welcome cocktail reception. As a board and association, our biggest goals in the next six months are to increase membership and improve education. We have gone through a process to examine our value proposition and concluded that we need to educate our members on the value of membership, such as member perks and advocacy at the provincial level. CMBA Ontario is also focusing on enhancing education by designing new programs to focus on the brokers and agents.
