32 | spring 2018 cmba-achc.ca CmB magazIne t he mortgage broker community in British Columbia is a strong and vibrant one, thanks in large part to the frequency of quality events focused on education, networking and building business relation- ships available to our members. The CMBa-BC Fundamentals Conference & Trade Show is the most significant annual gathering of this community. The 2018 edition, which was held back in March, marked yet another important step in the mortgage broker industry's pursuit of professionalism. The catchphrase at Fundamentals18 was getting "Back to Business." after years of explosive growth in the West Coast real estate and mortgage market, the new business environment calls for mortgage brokers to differentiate themselves by demonstrating superb market knowledge and exceptional value for their customers, while approaching each deal with a renewed sense of energy. Motivation was a key element of this year's conference, which featured world-renowned success mentor Darren hardy as keynote speaker. hardy was able to share his insights into the value of compounding decisions and compounding finances with more than 400 delegates. The conference featured equally important presenta- tions by economists, regulatory experts and fraud experts. CMBa-BC was also proud to present panels featuring former international athletes who are now member mortgage brokers and our first-ever all-female broker panel, which focused on topics of leadership and business management. The event's trade show featured 60 exhibitors from across our industry and was an ideal opportunity for lenders, vendors and suppliers to showcase their brands. Several deals which were struck on the trade show floor have already been funded, demonstrating the vital impor- tance of forging new business relationships with face-to- face meetings. Our association is happy to play a role in bringing everyone together, even if we do not get a split in the deals! We trust that everyone had a great time, made some new business connections, increased their knowledge and left feeling energized and inspired. planning is already underway for Fundamentals19 and it promises to be the best one yet.
