Last year, the company launched the Salt Water Showdown Fishing Derby, which raised $8,400 for PSF and the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue in the valley. facebook.com/fishcomoxvalley Beginning in 2011, the Bamfield Tuna Shootout is Canada's first albacore tuna fishing derby. The event was started to promote the relatively new and quickly expanding albacore sport fishery. Last year, it also helped raise $5,000 for the Pacific Salmon Foundation. bamfieldtunashootout.com Moby's Fishing Derby on Salt Spring Island broke a new record last year, raising more than $11,000 for PSF projects. mobyspub.ca/event/mobys-fishing-derby At just $100 per person, the Galiano Salmon Classic is a great opportunity to get your fishing buddies together in support of salmon. The event regularly raises $5,000 or more for PSF projects and takes place at scenic Montague Harbour on Galiano Island. eventbrite.ca/e/galiano-salmon-classic- tickets-41975632246 Mill Bay Marine Group hosts four annual fundraising derbies that benefit PSF. facebook.com/millbaymarina From left: Brian Riddell and Cory Matheson of PSF pose with Mill Bay Marine Group's Paul McFadden (manager), Andrew Purdey (CEO) Dwayne Shaw (president), Wayne Pullen and Jackie Ekdahl. Held at two lodges in Haida Gwaii, Westcoast Resorts' Salmon Masters Tournament is the largest cash salmon derby in North America. The event has been responsible for introducing several major donors to the PSF (including the Pan Pacific Salmon Club members pictured above) and raising funds for salmon projects through its kick-off event, which last year raised $30,000 via bids on items and raffle ticket purchases. Langara Island Lodge's annual Red Boat Challenge brings together leaders in the mining industry with a zeal for fishing and conservation. Funds raised by the group are matched by Langara. The derby, which raised a record $50,000 in 2016, outdid itself again, raising $60,000 for PSF projects in 2017.
