On another path, the PPG Paints brand's 2018 Colour of the Year is Black Flame. According to PPG colour experts, this statement-making black, infused with an undertone of the deepest indigo, evokes the privacy, hope and classic modernism that many consumers crave today. Embodying the spirit of a tailored tuxedo or a little black dress, it is dressed-up, coveted, unapologetic and, most importantly, timeless. "Black Flame acts like a black curtain, allowing your other décor elements to take centre stage," says Dee Schlotter, PPG senior colour marketing manager. "It's a fantastic blend of black and indigo, two classic hues. Black creates the silence we crave in an information-heavy world, while the indigo offers possibility and a deep hopefulness. The blend of two colours makes it incredibly versatile – use it on a statement wall, with a matte finish on a ceiling, with high gloss on a naturally-lit staircase, on cabinets, interior and exterior doors, and in many more places. The versatile hue can also provide strength and a modern luxe vibe to spaces with a lot of whites, blush pinks and soft pastels." SICO paint is also adding a touch of elegance to its colour choices with the 2018 Colour of the Year – Cast Iron. According to SICO colour experts, black paint highlights a perfect mix of modern yet timeless sophistication and offers flexibility in design that is often overlooked. Similar to a favourite black handbag, Cast Iron pairs with almost any design style. "Cast Iron is a perfect choice for do-it-yourselfers who crave a grounded room that is enveloped in comfort and coziness, beginning with their paint colour selection," says Mylène Gévry, senior marketing manager, SICO paint brand by PPG. "This colour is hard to ignore and provides a certain grandeur or simplicity to a space because of its flexibility." SICO colour experts recommend pairing it with a variety of other tones. Layer this deep, rich midnight hue with a variety of trending softer neutrals, such as millennial pink Vanilla Orchid, a nutmeg-tone like Roma Antiqua, a brown-grey like Flawless Grey and a warm white like Zen for a tranquil and minimal look. To make a dramatic statement, Cast Iron can be paired with a dark burgundy like Venetian Wine or a mid-tone grey like Industrial Grey. Combined with brass or gold accents, this colour palette will give the appearance of elegance and luxury. Also following the road to elegance, Dulux Paints by PPG offers two Colours of the Year for 2018: Black Elegance, a statement-making black infused with an undertone of the deepest brown, and a metallic companion; and Dulux Effects Finishes Liquid Metal Golden Goose. "The combination of Black Elegance and Golden Goose is unapologetic, ultra-sophisticated and decadent," says Martin Tustin-Fuchs, brand manager for Dulux Paints by PPG. "These deep, rich colours will turn heads in any space." To make a dramatic statement, Black Elegance can be paired with Heavy Cream, It Works, Burgundy Wine or Cool Charcoal. Add Golden Goose through decor elements, or use it as a replacement to It Works on an accent wall. Dulux Effects Finishes Liquid Metal delivers style and grace by adding lustrous shimmer to walls, trim, and furniture. Available in 32 light-reflecting colours infused with gold, silver, copper or bronze undertones, the finish takes on a smooth or mottled look depending on the application tool used. Dulux Effects Finishes Liquid Metal finish involves a two-step application process, starting with a coat of a specially-paired base colour on which two top coats of Dulux Effects Finishes Liquid Metal finish are applied. "Reminiscent of a fluid, sparkling work of art, this illuminating, durable, colour-rich texture delivers the ultimate finishing touch to any room," says Tustin-Fuchs.
