A PR IL 2018 | 33 Doors The world of doors welcomes energy efficient options and bolder styles by STACEY MCLACHLAN I f you're looking for someone to thank for the influx of amazing door options these days, turn to your favourite architect. These are the people who hold a lot of power when it comes to influencing design trends, notes Travis Reynolds, national marketing manager for Steel-Craft Door Products. "They're probably the driving force behind today's trends. The architects are moving the needle as it relates to the commer- cial and residential side," he explains. "They're asking manufacturers, like us, to come up with new custom- ized options to offer their clients." Those manufacturers have responded with gusto, it seems, flooding the market with an impres- sive array of options for 2018. From bi-folds to slab doors, and bold colours to privacy-enhancing glass, today's most intriguing door products open a world of possibilities. Bigger continues to be better when it comes to door designs for 2018. "Eight-foot-tall doors are definitely one of our more popular options," points out Tracy Nadiger, director of marketing for All Weather Windows. "The trend of bringing the outdoors in is only increasing as owners and developers continue to want bigger views and better flow between indoor and Open Minds outdoor living spaces," explains Kris Hanson, Marvin Windows and Doors' senior manager of product man- agement. "They want doors where windows used to be, which has resulted in the rising popularity of scenic doors. With large panels of glass, scenic doors provide access to the outdoors whether opened or closed." These scenic doors don't have to be limited to exterior applications either; Hanson has noticed these styles are being used more frequently as space dividers in both commercial and residential projects. With this desire for open and flexible spaces in mind, Marvin Windows and Doors has taken the traditional wooden door to a new level with a new bi-fold design: Marvin Wood Ultimate Bi-Fold Door, which is designed for both residential and com- mercial use, is available in over 80 configurations, making it adaptable to a wide variety of applications and design styles. "The scenic door minimizes visible hardware for a clean look, and the warm quality of the wood interior and exterior lends itself ideally to interior applications, from the division of a large con- ference room in a modern office space to an entrance or a three-season porch from a main living area in a home," says Hanson. As more and more builders opt to use scenic-style doors to make a statement in interior spaces as well Marvin Wood Ultimate Bi-Fold Door from Marvin Windows and Doors. Tall, colourful options from All Weather Windows.
