FEBRUA RY 2018 | 39 Appliances general manager. "But vented dryers will soon be non- existent with manufacturers switching to different technology. There are two new types of dryers on the market – condensers and heat pump." Hale explains the new units do not require lengthy duct runs, saving cost and energy. "Having the heat pump or condenser dryer in a compact, multi-resi- dential application is convenient because builders don't have to account for extra venting depth. Focusing on energy efficiency, the condenser dryer takes moisture out of the clothes and pumps the water up into a container you can use to water your plants, or if you don't want to empty the water con- tainer you could have it pumped down the same drain as the washing machine. It also provides a bit of heat to the room because the dryer heat goes back into the home." She says for those who don't want that option, the heat pump version recycles the energy. "It's the most energy-efficient drying that you can get. The industry is changing such that Bosch is no lon- ger offering vented dryers and by the end of the year, Miele will only offer the heat pump dryers." Midland Appliance has seen an increase in sales for induction cooking options for several reasons. "Induction cooking has become very popular for people who really like to cook, primarily because it provides even heat," says Mark Crocker, senior account manager, multifamily sales. "For example, radiant cooktops can get too hot and have a lot of residual heat. With induction cooking, there is a connection between the pot and the induction magnetics so when that connection is broken, all the heat goes away." Cleaning is another benefit to induction cooking because nothing gets baked onto the glass, he notes. "With proper maintenance, the look of the unit on day one can be maintained for many years. There are to be some scratches, but compared to gas or radiant heat units, the induction cooktops clean up very well." The popularity of induction has also caught on with developers. Crocker says one of their clients has installed induction cooktops in a new condominium development in Victoria, B.C. "People appreciate the fact that they can get performance as well as, if not better than gas, because induction is very reactive, and the low maintenance is a bonus." Dacor's all-new Modernist Collection transforms the luxury kitchen into a stage for imagination, experimentation and play. "This collection infuses cutting-edge technology with timeless crafts- manship," says Michael Magnani, director product marketing, Dacor. "For example, our Modernist 48-inch Pro Dual-Fuel Steam Range features innova- tions like superior, faster, healthier steam-roasting and steam-baking, speed convection, a built-in Wi-Fi- enabled LCD touchscreen and the power of 22K BTU dual-stack sealed brass burners." The Modernist Collection also boasts a recently unveiled Four-Door FreshZone Plus French Door Refrigerator that blends in perfectly with your sur- rounding cabinetry thanks to counter height vertical bottom freezer doors. "The FreshZone Plus compart- ment is the most flexible way to make more freezer or refrigerator space whenever you need it. The section provides optimal temperature control for storing everything from meat and fish, to chilled drinks or deli, while also offering the option of safely defrost- ing items within a controlled space," says Magnani. A hid- den touch control panel provides the setting for ideal temperature, while preserving the sleek esthetics of the stainless steel-wrapped interior."
