OCTOBER 2017 | 23 PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY HONEYWELL FLUORINE PRODUCTS Insulation lightweight, easy-to-handle product is especially suited for direct application on FM approved and UL classified steel roof deck assemblies; it is available in board sizes of four foot by four foot by four foot, and four foot by eight foot, and in thick- nesses from 0.5-inches to 4.5-inches. Deol says, "whether it's commercial or industrial construc- tion, there is a constant push to complete projects in a timely manner, and our ISO 95+ is lightweight, easy to handle, and typically used for single ply roofing applications. For roofs with a lot of foot traffic, a high density coverboard can be added for compressive strength. The point is, Firestone provides a wide variety of solutions for a wide variety of construction needs." Finally, just as Brian Hall has high hopes for the further proliferation of insulated concrete wall panels in the future, Andrew Cole, executive director of the Canadian Urethane Foam Contractors Association (CUFCA), has high hopes for the eventual common use of ozone-friendly blowing agents for roofing systems, wall insulation and for insulating metal pan- els. "Suddenly, thanks to companies such as Honeywell and its Solstice liquid blowing agent, which is a low global warming potential product, blown foam insulation can legitimately be called green and environmentally friendly," he says. Elastochem Specialty Chemicals Inc. was the first SPF man- ufacturer in Canada to bring the Honeywell Solstice blowing agent to market. At the moment all of CUFCA's three manu- facturers are in the process of releasing their own SPF sys- tems with these same HFO blowing agents. "As mandated in the Montreal Protocol, all SPF manufacturers will be required to phase out existing blowing agents for the new HFO prod- ucts within the next few years," says Cole, adding that this change in blowing agents will open up a wider market adop- tion of spray foam use, as chemical concerns continue to be addressed through ongoing research and development.
