OCTOBER 2017 | 21 PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY FIRESTONE BUILDING PRODUCTS Insulation Also from Structural Panels is the Isowall insulated wall panel system, which consists of a rigid Expanded PolyStyrene foam core with laminated sheet steel per- manently bonded on both sides. This system provides strong and reliable thermal performance, with easy installation being an added benefit. The R-value of the Isowall panels is 4.1 per inch and doesn't deplete over time, and the high thermal barrier envelope and vapour resistance created by the pan- els result in an energy cost savings of as much as 30 percent over traditional multi part building systems. Equally important, Isowall panels last as long as the service life of a typical commercial building, thus reducing operational costs for energy and maintenance, and offering multiple end-of-life reuse options. Although its R-value adds just a few points to a building's wall, Dryvit is about to launch NewBrick in Canada, and it is generating a lot of excitement among develop- ers and designers because it offers a faster and simpler way to build more cost- and energy-efficient traditional-looking structures from the ground up. NewBrick is a lightweight insulated brick product that is coated with a specially formulated finish. "It can be installed over nearly any solid substrate, including con- crete and masonry, as well as over any Dryvit Outsulation system," says Kevin Day, VP – managing director of Dryvit Systems Canada. "The brick is already available through Dryvit in the U.S., and the Canadian rollout will initially be focused on resi- dential wood frame construction, with wider applications soon to follow." Day calls NewBrick, "a significant new product at a time when masonry skills are dwindling, and yet more and more developers want brick used predominantly in their projects. NewBrick takes half the work to install and is one tenth of the weight of real brick, and it's fabulous for renovation and retrofit jobs due to how easy it is to replicate original brickwork – even if the bricks in question haven't been made in over 100 years. Plus, NewBrick is very flexible: if the building moves, it can move with it." Durabond Products Limited is also unveiling a new product in 2017 that, accord- ing to architectural sales representative Stuart Mustill, "is generating lots of inter- est in development projects because it's good for increased wall thicknesses where more R-value is required." The product in question is Durex Quantum 5.0, part of the Quantum Select fam- ily of high-performance EIFS cladding. Quantum Select is engineered to provide drainage and accelerated drying of incidental moisture in the wall, while retaining maximum insulation value through the reduction of convection, and Quantum 5.0 is Durex's premium EIFS version, featuring Atlas EPS ThermalStarTM X-Grade Rigid Foam Insulation, made exclusively for EIFS Wall Systems. This insulation maintains its superior thermal and mechanical properties over time – including R-value and moisture resistance – providing long-term stability at a more affordable price than competitive XPS (extruded polystyrene) foam products. The Quantum Select line is an economical yet powerful cladding solution for everything from new builds (including structures placed closely together) and for increasing the service life of older, inefficient and deteriorating structures. A company with the sheer range of resources and acumen such as Firestone Building Products has, over time, become a trusted source for insulation products, and Jasmeet Deol, marketing communications specialist, says many of these prod- ucts have been developed not only to perform according to extremely high stan- dards, but also for ease of installation. Case in point is the company's Firestone ISO 95+ GL insulation, which offers high- energy efficiency through the highest R-value ratings per inch compared to other insulation materials. Compatible with all types of commercial roofing systems, the Installation of Firestone ISO 95+ GL insulated roofing system.
