Here's a checklist for what's next: 1. Always stop. Leaving the scene of a collision is illegal and subject to fines of up to $368 in BC. 2. Stay calm. Exit the vehicle only when it's safe to do so. 3. Check for injuries. If necessary – or if you're in doubt – call 911. 4. Pull the vehicles over if it's safer than staying put. Turn on your hazard lights and set out warning cones if you have them. 5. Assess damage. Take notes, and photos of the vehicle and scene. 6. Exchange info. Drivers are legally required to share their names, contact information, driver's licences, plate numbers and insurance details. Also note contact information for passengers and any witnesses. Head spinning? Your best bet is the true winter tire – regardless of what's on the ground. Winter tires are made of a softer rubber compound that stays grippy in the cold; while all-seasons harden below 7°C, losing traction, even on dry surfaces.
