cmba-atlanticconference CmB magazine cmba-achc.ca summer 2017 | 45 the upcoming CMBa-atlantic Conference & trade Show gives brokers the tools to stay afloat amidst "seas of change" By CAtherine FogArty, SeCretAry to the BoArD, Committee ChAir C MBA-Atlantic has been working tirelessly to finalize plans for our upcoming 2017 Annual Mortgage Brokers Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia. e two-day event, October 29 and 30, will be held at the Halifax Marriott Waterfront Hotel overlooking beautiful Halifax Harbour. is year marks the third annual conference for CMBA-Atlantic. Year over year it has grown, with an increase in delegates and trade show participants. Given the inquiries and interest received to date, all indications are this trend will continue for 2017. Brokers, industry partners and service providers have communicated to us that they recognize the importance of being part of a non-profit, volunteer-powered organization that works to represent them and our industry as a whole to government, stakeholders and mortgage consumers. To quote a local business development manager: "An opportunity for like-minded individuals to come together for an educational, networking and motivational event is key to the continued growth and success of our industry." Aer another year of significant government regulatory amendments to the Canadian Mortgage Industry, CMBA-Atlantic is looking to forge ahead with a positive attitude, and has adopted the conference theme "Chart Your Course ~ Navigating the Seas of Change". e 2017 agenda is designed to be educational and inspirational, providing delegates with new information and tools to adapt to our ever-changing regulatory and business landscape. As Atlantic Canada makes up four of Canada's 10 provinces, the needs of its consumers and brokers are diverse and all-encompassing. With that in mind, agenda items will include "Regional Economic Outlook", "Importance of Strong Government Relations" and "Marketing in the 21st Century." Our keynote speaker is a thriving Atlantic entrepreneur who has overcome challenges and proven that with vision, knowledge, a sense of humour and a strong work ethic, success is possible. Recognizing business is certainly important, but so too is giving back to the communities we work in; in that vein, CMBA-Atlantic is pleased to again partner with Make-a-Wish Atlantic Provinces for "Brokering Wishes", raising funds to make the wish of an Atlantic Canadian child with a life-threatening medical condition come true. In 2016, the team exceeded their goal to adopt a single wish and was actually able to adopt two. Since then, many fundraisers continue to be held throughout New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland to raise enough money to realize the wish of at least one child in each province. eir combined efforts will be presented to Make-a-Wish at the October conference. CMBA-Atlantic would like to thank our ever-increasing number of volunteers and sponsors who make these events such a success. Our annual conference is a key fundraiser, providing the financial resources for the promotion of mortgage brokers to consumers. As a result of past conferences, CMBA-Atlantic was able to secure 12 weeks of TV advertising on Global TV in all four Atlantic provinces in 2016, and 24 weeks on CBC in 2017. ese commercials promote the trademark MB, clearly distinguishing mortgage brokers from bank mortgage specialists, making sure consumers know that "their best mortgage advice comes from a mortgage broker" and to always look for the mark of membership. e conference's two-day agenda will be announced soon!
