AUGUST 2017 | 31 Hardwood Flooring markets by using German built preci- sion equipment, the best coatings, adhe- sives and lumber, and all of our wood is Lacey Act compliant," says Richard Sisk, VP. "Also, minimizing volatile organic compounds such as formaldehyde in our glues and finishes ensures Wiston floor- ings are healthy and safe to use." He adds Wiston floorings come in a variety of colours, species and styles for every interior design, from home living room remodelling to luxury condo devel- opment. "The layered engineered con- struction is stable and can be installed on any level of home using either the glue, float or staple-down installation method. Wiston products also carry a 25-year structural warranty." T H E F I N I S H I N G T O U C H As a leading manufacturer of wood adhe- sives and care/maintenance products for wood floors, MAPEI has brought to mar- ket a new refinishing system as an addi- tion to its Ultracoat product family. "We believe we have found the best and easi- est solution for wood-floor refinishers when sanding is not an option," says Jeff Johnson, business manager for MAPEI's Floor Covering Installation Systems. The solution is MAPEI's new Ultracoat ReNewIt, a sanding-free refinishing sys- tem for pre-finished and site-finished hardwood and bamboo f loors. "The ReNewIt system allows refinishers to recoat the floor in a simple four-step process," Johnson explains. "First, the Ultracoat ReNewIt Remover removes all polishes and contaminants. Second, the Ultracoat ReNewIt Cleaner leaves the floor clean and ready to recoat. In the third step, the Ultracoat ReNewIt Primer strengthens the bond between the cleaned floor and the new coating. And finally, the Ultracoat High Traffic [gloss] wood-floor finish brings back the luster and gloss of the floor." He says MAPEI's Ultracoat ReNewIt system will not solve problems due to deep scratches or gouges, and it won't allow the floor colour to be changed. "However, it will provide a new, well- bonded finish that brings back that new- floor look quickly and easily without a full sand-and-recoat process." S O U N D C O N T R O L Whether in commercial, multifamily or single family applications, sound con- trol plays a critical role in occupant sat- isfaction. With Maxxon's Acousti-Mat sound control systems, design possibil- ities include the full spectrum of floor good options such as hardwood, LVT or ceramic tile without sacrificing sound control. "Acousti-Mat can be installed in hard surface areas only or through- out the entire floor plan to ensure peace and quiet from impact and airborne noises," says Josh Jonsson, VP, sales. "The high quality entangled mesh core mat is then topped with a high-strength Maxxon Underlayment." Jonsson says it has been observed that the International Building Code level minimums of 50 (45 if field tested) for both STC (sound transmission class like voices and television noises) and IIC (impact insulation class such as foot- steps) performance does not guarantee acoustical privacy or that complaints will not be received. In response, the authors of the International Building Code, the International Code Council, have issued an appendix to the code called ICC G2-2010 - Guideline for Acoustics. This guideline concedes that current sound code minimums are not acceptable levels of sound control and establishes two additional levels of acoustical performance. "Upgrading sound control to a high- performance option, like Enkasonic, in traditional wood frame construction provides exceptional acoustic privacy in multifamily living," says Jonsson. S T I C K I N G A R O U N D Bostik Climb is a one-component, easy gunning, non-sag adhesive that is spe- cifically formulated for hardwood floor- ing, planks and blocks on interior walls and installation of stair tread caps. "The Climb formula has superior green grab [grab strength while wet] and cures quickly to form a tenacious bond," says Brandon Spearman, spokesperson for Bostik Canada. "Once cured, Climb remains tough yet flexible for extreme durability, helps reduce stair squeaking and reduces the sound of footsteps on the stairs. This specialty formulation is also easy to clean off of flooring, prefin- ished tread caps and risers even after cure." He adds that Climb has zero per- cent solvents and low odour. Climb has superior elasticity allow- ing the adhesive to move with the wood as it expands and contracts with changes in humidity and temperature over the life of the stair tread or hard- wood flooring.
