J UNE 2017 | 15 Roofing/Cladding Materials Dryvit has several programs that advance the capabilities of cladding choices, one of its most recent innovations being the High Durability Continuous Insulation (HDCI) Program that enhances impact resistance for exterior wall continuous insulation, which is a critical design consideration for any build- ing. Used in conjunction with Dryvit Outsulation sys- tems, HDCI's integrated air and water-resistive barrier delivers design freedom, exceptional performance and a high level of impact resistance; it comes with a 20-year warranty, and if the lamina gets punctured, Dryvit will repair it (subject to warranty terms). "Although the program is only two years old, we're seeing a lot of interest for HDCI on schools and build- ings held with long-term ownership," says Kevin Day, Dryvit Systems Canada's VP, sales and marketing. Another Dryvit program, ShieldIt, addresses a per- nicious yet under-reported problem: the damage to cladding inflicted by woodpeckers. ShieldIt is a set of acrylic polymer-modified base coats that are used over new and existing EIFS to provide a layer of protection against damage from woodpeckers and similar pests. The combination of the two ShieldIt Base Coat layers changes the surface characteristics to deter woodpeck- ers from pecking their way through the EIFS lamina. It can be applied to existing EIFS lamina that is clean, dry and in good serviceable condition – including decora- tive trim, profiles and mouldings. It can also be applied to the new Dryvit Outsulation system, overtop the rein- forced base coat, prior to the finish coat application. Firestone Building Products has always been rec- ognized for its innovative roofing solutions, and 2017 sees the Canadian release of a product that Mirza Hodzic, national brand manager, describes as "revolu- tionary" for builders, especially those in cold weather climates. It's a peel and stick membrane called UltraPly TPO SA with Secure Bond Technology, a next-gener- ation, high-performance, eco-friendly roofing mem- brane that builds on the existing reliability of UltraPly TPO, which has been used in the commercial roofing industry since 1996.
