"Roofers simply peel, stick and press," says Hodzic. "The bond is twice as strong as the nearest self-adhered membrane competitor, and it also significantly outperforms liquid LVOC adhesives." Although brand new, Firestone has test-applied the product on the roof of a new food processing facility in Ontario, and given that it emits no VOCs, it is expected to make a huge splash in new builds such as schools and hospitals where concerns about odour make re- roofing difficult. Firestone also offers the RubberGard EPDM SA membrane with new Secure Bond Technology, which ensures uniform adhesion coverage across the entire membrane; this technology significantly improves installation speed over traditional EPDM fully adhered systems and widens the weather window, with the ability to install down to 20-degrees Fahrenheit. It is the first and only EPDM SA system on the market. Flexibility of construction is the key to understand- ing the appeal of the ARCIS modular panels from Altus, of which Armtec is an AltusGroup precaster. For exam- ple, if doors or windows need to be added to a project, the panels can be cut or removed, and penetrations and cut holes can be added in the field with conventional tools. ARCIS panels use non-corrosive, high-strength aerospace grade stainless steel prestressing-preten- sioned cable strand placed longitudinally and trans- versely in the panel face to impart strength, crack control and durability, while allowing concrete cover to be minimized. These amazingly thin panels can be shipped much less expensively than many comparable cladding products. Shingles are of course a timeless roofing prod- uct, and Building Products of Canada Corp. offers the Vangard 42 line of impact resistant shingles to its Architect Collection of laminate shingles.
