A PR IL 2017 | 45 Hard Surface Flooring says Crooker. "For a reinforced version of Acoust-Mat LP, Maxxon created Acousti-Mat LPR." Most of Maxxon's sound mats are comprised of 40 percent pre-consumer recycled content making them your eco-friendly sound control solution. Covered with a Greenguard Gold Maxxon underlayment, the Acousti- Mat systems are the ultimate in eco-friendly sound control solutions and may contribute toward earning points for LEED-certified projects. Marr Industrial Coatings Inc. has been doing many installations with a product called Cementitious Urethane. "This is a specially designed product to be used in wet conditions where the floor is damp, or the concrete is green," says Frank Marr, president. "We can put the surfaces down in almost any facility, including meatpacking plants, [in fact] any food service facility as well as heavy duty projects where a thicker surface is required." Marr says they have also been doing floors with a product called methyl methacrylate (MMA). "This prod- uct's claim to fame is that it cures in a very short period of time so installers can do an entire floor in one day. This is good for places like restaurants that can't shut down for a long time. The turnaround is such that we start at 6 a.m. and by 6 p.m. they have a completed floor. There is no residual tackiness and the finish is as hard as rock. The nice thing about both of these flooring services is that they create extremely tough surfaces." While the prod- ucts have initial fumes, they are drawn away with ven- tilators, and after one hour the odours have dissipated. For both products, the finish can be a clear coat, or a decorative coat with coloured sand in it. "It could be a solid industrial grey, or a decorative look," say Marr. "We have a beautiful quartz stone look with a clear top- coat. This looks like a marble-type floor that you would find in a foyer." Bostik, Inc. introduces Climb, a one-component, easy gunning, non-sag adhesive specifically formu- lated for hardwood flooring, planks and blocks on inte- rior, above-grade walls and installation of stair tread caps. "Climb has a superior green grab [grab strength while wet] making it ideal for any vertical application in addition to tread caps and risers," says Eric Kurtz, LEED Green associate and Bostik's market manager. "Finally, there is a product that makes it easy to utilize the beauty of hardwood for accent walls or remodel- ling staircases without the difficulty, risk, or esthetic issues typical of common fasteners or glue." Kurtz says that while Climb cures quickly to form a tenacious bond to wood, it is designed not to bond with most finishes on pre-finished hardwood, tread caps or risers, making it easy to remove from the fin- ish even after cure. "Additionally, Climb remains tough yet flexible for extreme durability for the life of the installation," he explains. "It helps reduce stair squeak- ing and minimizes the sound of footsteps on stairs as well. Climb has zero percent solvents, low VOC and low odour, and may contribute toward LEED points." Applications can include solid or engineered hard- wood or bamboo installed on plywood, OSB, or exist- ing wood floor treads and risers, or drywall (gypsum panels), brick, cinderblock, or concrete for interior walls. Climb offers superior elasticity allowing the adhesive to move with the wood as it expands and con- tracts with changes in humidity and temperature over the life of the wood plank or stair tread.
