A PR IL 2017 | 71 balconies that are unusually generous in size, creating complementary outdoor rooms," says Neeser. "Again, all of the design decisions – including our decision for Crown to have a predominance of two- and three-bedroom suites – were based on family appeal." Broadhead regarded the inclusion of traditional elements more of an opportunity than a difficult thing to achieve. "The lobby is a perfect example," she says. "It's unmistakably modern and has very clean lines; but the inclusion of a fireplace with an 18-foot double-stitched leather surround makes the space almost cozy." A herringbone pattern was used extensively throughout the interiors as an indicator of tradition, from the lobby to the kitchen backsplashes of the living units. "This was contrasted with modern elements such as large oversized tiles," says Broadhead. "Installing herringbone pattern tiles was more time consuming than the laying of normal tiles, but the effort was worth it." Broadhead credits Beedie for "being very open to input, to the point where most of my initial design ideas survived to the final product. They want to make a lasting impression and therefore are sticklers for quality and detail." Another example of detail is a guest suite that was incorporated into the amenities offerings and is available to visiting families of all residents. "It's located on the third floor and makes family get- togethers easier because the guests and family can stay in the building as opposed to a hotel," says Neeser. As of March, Crown was nearing completion after two years of construction, and as its own general contractor Beedie has maintained a focus on quality and has successfully stayed on schedule and on budget despite the nasty winter of 2016/17. While multiple construction cranes have become a common sight in Burquitlam, Crown is shaping up to be an anchor residence that will influence other towers in terms of catering to an increasingly family-oriented market. "I can't speak enough of our design team that brought Crown to life," says Neeser. "The housing market in B.C. is changing, and we're very happy to unveil a multi-family residence that will stand the test of time." A LOCATION 520 Como Lake Road, Coquitlam, B.C.
