Keeping Industry in Motion A collaborate, integrated network of shops has come to define Motion Industries success while raising the bar on customer service in Canada S ANDREW CARNEGIE, THAT GREAT 19TH-CENTURY American industrialist and philanthropist once opined: "Team- work is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncom- mon results." Uncommon results are exactly what Motion Canada attains, each and every day. And it is our valued team members – working col- laboratively toward the common goal of exceeding our customers' needs and expectations – who are responsible for providing the competitive edge that sets us apart from our competition, and ensures our continued success. I was reminded of Carnegie's quote on the power of organizational collaboration when I read this issue's cover story, "Strength in Numbers" (page 18), about our unique and powerful Can- adian network of integrated shops, and the teams and managers who operate them. As our Hamilton ON09 shop manager Steve Pieterse explains in the piece, "In an ever- changing marketplace, versatility, adaptability and flexibility are some of the key ingredients to our continued success." I agree wholeheartedly, and would add to that the power of our people – the folks who take ownership of their jobs and pride in their work. It is through their persis- tence, ingenuity and hard work that we attain those uncommon results. Those results permeate all aspects of our organization, beyond the shop floor to the offices, warehouses, depots and administrative centres that help us keep Canadian industries in motion – and even safe. In this issue of Communicator, you will also read about the Motion Canada's teams that provide logistical support to our many customers who have fire-protection needs. In "Putting Out Fires" (page 24), you'll learn about the challenges facing fire services in Canada generally, and how Motion Canada in particular is expanding its fire services offerings to existing indus- trial and commercial customers in order to help them keep apace of the evolution of supplies and equipment in that sector. Also in this issue of Communicator our "News from the Company" section (beginning on page 6) checks in with our larger Motion Industries and General Parts Company family to explore the implications of the recent Braas Company acquisition in Minnesota, the important work of our dedicated safety specialists both in the United States and Canada, and the many awards granted our partners and suppliers at this year's inaugural BSA Excellence Awards. Elsewhere in the fall 2016 issue of Communicator, we explore the science of management success in our feature, "Winning and Losing" (page 32), and the power of your personal energy in "Managing Your Impact" (page 40). And in a rare trip beyond North America for our travel pages, we deliver 65 excellent reasons to visit Hannover, Germany (page 35), host of this year's Hannover Messe, a global industrial fair featuring some 6,500 industry-leading exhibitors in the industrial and technology space, including many of Motion Industries' international partners. Until next time, please enjoy the latest issue of Communicator and enjoy a wonderful and safe Christmas season with family and friends.
