The federal government introduced tax-free savings accounts
in 2009. TFSAs allow Canadians 18 years of age and over
to save or invest money in an account and pay no taxes on
income earned on those funds, interest payments, stock divi-
dends or capital gains. In February, Mustel Group conducted a
provincewide poll for BCBusiness, asking 500 B.C. residents:
What statement best describes your use of TFSAs?

In our February cover story
("The Rainmaker"), Kerry
Banks looked at how
businessman and philanthro-
pist David Sidoo is helping
the
UBC football team up its
game. BC Fraud Squad
(@bcfraudsquad) commented
on the cover itself: "I also play
football in a suit. It's great
unless someone tackles me."

In his February Watercooler column, Steve Burgess
lamented the loss of services that once were free.
Although Mary Grace Kosta (@marygkosta)
agreed, tweeting, "*sigh* I remember when we
got a choice of a hot meal, free booze, magazines
and leg room on economy •ights," Cameron
MacLeod (@c_9) pointed out that "they weren't
free: we paid for them. Airfare is signi…cantly
cheaper today than 35 years ago."
When we asked our Twitter followers, "Should
we fast-track high-speed rail from Vancouver to
Seattle? ("The Missing Link," February 2017),
comments ranged from "Yes" (Jon Talton,
@jontalton) to "Heck no. All priorities should be
moving commuters e˜ciently" (Lake Country
Harvest, @LakeCountryHarv) and more: "Not to
Seattle, but to Squamish and to Hope BC," from
Casey Kerkho (@caseykerk).
Correction: A story in our March 2017 issue ("Wheel of Fortune,"
p.16) mentioned the City of Vancouver's bike share service. Since the
magazine went to press, the program's name has changed from Mobi
to Mobi by Shaw Go.
