WRITING OF THE EXAMINATION
In B.C., the same service provider
administers both the mortgage broker
and the real estate trader examinations.
Once the student completes the course
work, he or she is eligible to write the
corresponding examination. In order to write
the examination, the student is required
to, in advance, turn in a required form; the
form requires the attaching of a passport-
sized photograph of the student. Further
photographic identification is required from
the student at the time the examination
is to be written.
In the case at hand, a person claiming to
be "Mr. R" had been turned away from writing
the examination because the government-
issued photo I.D. he presented did not match
Mr. R's appearance. e person was referred
to a lawyer or notary to get further assurances
regarding identity.
ISSUE
To obtain and maintain registration (in this
article, registration includes licensing), a broker
must meet course and related examination
requirements. What happens when a person other
than the applicant writes a required examination?
A 2016 order from the British Columbia Registrar
of Mortgage Brokers (Registrar), while involving
slightly different circumstances, provides
considerable guidance.
A mortgage broker should always, and only ever,
write their own qualification exam
