In other cases, a major requirement may be to either access the functionality of Skype for business but keep some of the costs down, or sweat the assets of an existing meeting space. For example, Logitech Room Solutions, Polycom Trio and other products can take an existing room with a display and turn it into a Skype- ready experience. Extending the life of the products partially through its lifecycle." GAV MGMT is a unique low-voltage technology integration and consulting firm specializing in AV, low voltage LED lighting, security and energy man- agement solutions. It also provides stakeholders and professional trades with correct and accurate infor- mation required to meet functionality requirements. Its team of system designers, technology specialists and draftsmen provide comprehensive and detailed information that allow for proper installation and wir- ing of all components. Maurice Gaudio, principal and owner of GAV MGMT, reports that business grew by 40 percent in 2016, thanks partly to a new revenue stream provided by the use of category 5 and 6 cables, typically for lighting control projects. "Previously, electricians would merely sell the fixtures, but this class 2 product adds an extra 25 percent in billing to any project," Gaudio says. La Scala is a CEDIA award-winning company adept at everything from integration (Savant and Crestron) and entertainment (multi-room, media room and home theatre), to environment (lighting, shades and energy). It's with an awareness of artistic intention and a commitment to excellence that the company creates powerful, simple, effective solutions for customers and their spaces, and while its portfolio shows many examples of this, one recent project is also notewor- thy: it obliged president Mike Chorney and his team, on behalf of the ski hill's ownership, to create a hidden audio experience along the Light Walk outdoor tourist attraction on Grouse Mountain in B.C. While this may not seem unusual, Chorney says: "Our job required us to provide an audio system in which the speakers are hidden in the trees surround- ing the Light Walk attraction; we recently installed 42 speakers in a zone in a single week during the recent snow storms." In 2016, La Scala also worked on the upgrade to Vancouver's Gotham high-end steakhouse using Audio Control Digital Signal Processors. This enabled La Scala to shape the sound for the varying interiors and exteriors to ensure a consistent optimal audio experi- ence, regardless of the zone. La Scala as of late has been working in the luxury car dealership sector. "Too many of these dealerships have ostentatious AV set-ups that detract from the automo- biles, whereas our solutions are discreet and vehicle launches can focus on the beauty of the super cars and not on the temporary AV setups," says Chorney. These spaces quickly convert into social entertainment spaces to debut new cars; conversely, they are used to rent offsite spaces. This helps the potential clients in the dealerships to see all of the offerings and not just one car at a remote function. Finally, as a company that specializes in sound masking, Vibra-Sonic Control is on the periphery of the AV sector, however, as technological development and the natural evolution of services continues, the lines between AV and sound masking are starting to blur. In Vibra-Sonic Control's case, that's because its cli- ents, who seek sound masking products for offices, boardrooms and other areas, also want music services and paging capabilities. "We can provide that, because within our eight layers of sound masking, we have eight channels of music and paging infrastructure," says Sandy Park, Vibra-Sonic Control's Calgary-based regional manager. "For a Calgary medical clinic we recently worked on, we were able to place four differ- ent pager microphones in different departments, one of them right next to the fire panel. This service saves clients money, especially for companies that need only limited AV capabilities." A Gotham Steakhouse. Sharps.indd 1 17-01-23 2:07 PM The Fence People.indd 1 2016-11-07 12:28 PM
