DECEMBER 2016 | 49 Sinks "We are very excited about this col- lection," says Drutis. "It allows us to offer a wide material array of apron front styles from stainless steel, ceramic/ fireclay and now Silgranit options, and, even more, thrilled that this collection is manufactured right here in Canada." Novanni Stainless is pleased to release news about the Cristadur gran- ite sinks. "Schock has managed to take many of the material's great strengths up to the next level," says Holly Skogstad, marketing co-ordinator. "The production of Cristadur Extreme employs the high- est-grade raw materials, including espe- cially pure quartz sand from Germany." Skogstad adds that the casting and curing process benefits from the highly cross-linked organic binder. "By ingraining a special fibreglass prod- uct in the bottom of the sink, Schock has been able to increase the material's impact resistance several times over, with the organic fibres cross-linking the quartz casting compound even better and affording the material greater elas- ticity. The result is the best Cristadur ever," says Skogstad. Novanni Stainless is 100 percent Canadian-owned, and manufactures stainless steel sinks in the small town of Coldwater, Ontario. Its sinks are made from 90 per- cent recycled materials and, at the end of their lifecycle, are 100 percent recyclable. Novanni manufactures sinks under the brands Wessan, Novanni Pro and Novanni Elite. Novanni is also a distributor of the Cristadur granite sinks. Splashes Bath & Kitchen is now carrying the often- requested Ekla bathroom sink from Canadian based Kalia Inc. The clean, defined look with its wide, shallow design is said to be a work of art. "The Ekla sink is following trends that are more sleek and modern," says Michelle Braden, marketing co- ordinator. "This is a brand-new product for us. Our customers had seen the sink on the Kalia website and wanted to know if we carried it, so it will now be part of our lineup. It's one of the nicest products I've seen in a long time." Braden adds the Ekla sink will be popular for a number of demographics because of its elegant appearance. The contem- porary look has a recessed installation and can be installed with a pop-up waste. Designed for a one- or three-hole faucet, Ekla is a Castylat lavatory, meaning it is a solid, homogenous polyester and mineral blend with a glossy, high resistance and easy main- tenance coating. When asked what basin style he likes to recommend to design clients, Doug Sproule of Sustainable Solutions International says: "One of the most underutilized sink designs in North America has to be the semi-recessed [S/R] basin. The S/R basin is absolutely huge in almost every other market on the globe, as it allows designers to create the illusion of space in smaller bathrooms." Because the basin hangs over the counter edge, Sproule says designers can specify a full size basin on a countertop with a depth as small as 12 inches. "When you consider that a standard bathroom vanity depth is 21 inches, it isn't difficult to understand the amazing choices and flexibility provided by this creative design choice. You have zero compromise on beauty and functionality in even the tightest spaces. It is simply a no-brainer. If you then add an in-wall toilet to the design, you all of a sudden have the luxurious feel and performance of a full size bathroom in a much smaller space."
