Canada's second largest ski resort offers two-hour and four-hour snowmobile tours daily, with a nightly campfire and wiener roast at McGillivray Lake Cabin. Helmets with visors and other required gear (except gloves) are provided. To drive, you must have a valid driver's licence, and kids must be six or older to ride as passengers. This "cool" adventure is open to all ages – and if a four-year- old can climb an 18-metre- high tower of ice and hit the cowbell on top, anyone can! The tower, constructed out of telephone poles and 90-cm- thick ice, has four scalable sides, one with pronounced footholds for beginners, and others that are slicker for experienced climbers. Boots, crampons and other tools are provided, and skilled staff are on hand to give tips and encouragement. Winter fat biking is one of the newest cold-weather sensations to hit BC ski resorts A "fat bike" is a mountain bike with extra-wide tires for traction and stability on snow. Fernie Alpine Resort offers groomed trails, rentals and programs for winter fat biking. Learn the ropes on a guided tour, or take part in a two- hour evening ride followed by a catered dinner at the lodge's Cirque Restaurant (Thursdays at 4:30 p.m.). Head lamps are provided.
