The entrance to this short loop is marked by a glowing light tunnel. Allow 30 minutes to an hour for a slow stroll with photo stops. Canada's second largest ski resort offers two-hour and four-hour snowmobile tours daily, with a nightly campfire and wiener roast at McGillivray Lake Cabin. Helmets with visors and other required gear (except gloves) are provided. To drive, you must have a valid driver's licence, and kids must be six or older to ride as passengers. This "cool" adventure is open to all ages – and if a four-year- old can climb an 18-metre- high tower of ice and hit the cowbell on top, anyone can! The tower, constructed out of telephone poles and 90-cm- thick ice, has four scalable sides, one with pronounced footholds for beginners, and others that are slicker for experienced climbers. Boots, crampons and other tools are provided, and skilled staff are on hand to give tips and encouragement. Fernie Alpine Resort offers groomed trails, rentals and programs for winter fat biking.
