OCTOBER 2016 | 51 Tiles Mapei recently announced the addition of Ultracolor Plus FA to its tile-and-stone grout offerings. The use of a fine aggregate in this rapid-setting grout makes it an all-in-one grout that can be used in place of both sanded and unsanded grout. It is applicable for joint widths from 1/16-inch to ¾-inch. "Ultracolor Plus FA is easy to install and stain-resistant, does not require a sealer and is available in all 40 colours of the new Mapei colour palette," says Mapei busi- ness manager David Mowery. "It is specially formulated with Mapei's High-Hydrated Cement Technology [HCT] to eliminate the common problems related to Portland- cement grout, such as colour consistency and efflorescence. This new grout also has the added benefit of DropEffect technology, which reduces surface absorption to help repel water, dirt and grime from penetrating grout joints." J.D. Eckmire, Western Canada sales director for Mapei, says, "We believe that the performance and application characteristics of this product will be extremely pop- ular with everyone, from professional installers on large commercial jobs to resi- dential builders and remodelers." Bostik's TruColor RapidCure premium, pre-mixed urethane grout is a patented water-based grout offering the ultimate in colour accuracy, water resistance, and stain and crack protection, says Brandon Spearman, spokesperson for Bostik Canada. "TruColor RapidCure has a traditional, sanded grout joint appearance but contains no loose pigment, which ensures uniform colour is maintained throughout grout joints." Each quartz particle is individually pigmented to avoid problems traditionally associated with maintaining proper colour throughout the grouting process. "It contains a built-in, urethane sealer so it never has to be sealed for the life of the tile installation," says Spearman. "It can be exposed to intermittent water after only three days of cure and completely submerged after just seven days." This low- VOC formulation contains eight percent pre-consumer, recycled glass content and Bostik's Blockade antimicrobial protection. Schluter-Systems' most recent product, Designbase-SL, is a top set wall base- board that provides a modern and stylish alternative to traditional baseboards in commercial buildings and condominiums. "Because it is made of metal, Designbase-SL provides added durability and won't crack or shrink over time, elim- inating a common problem with many commercial baseboards," says Irene Plank, marketing director. "Designbase-SL is designed to be installed after the floor and is suitable for use over any type of floor surface, not just tile. The cove-shaped base sits on top of the floor and is attached to the wall using Schluter-Kerdi-Fix, or other suitable adhe- sives," she says. "This design offers a few notable advantages, starting with fast and easy installation. It is ideal in situations where the floor is still in good condi- tion but the baseboard needs to be replaced, and offers cost savings over custom fabricated baseboards. Prefabricated corners and connectors are also available to ensure a perfect finish." Designbase-SL comes in two different heights with three finishes that are well suited to commercial settings. An optional sealing lip accessory is also available to protect the floor/wall transition from moisture penetration and to reduce the transmission of impact sound.
