Icynene continues to work on product innovation to make sure that its products are leading performers with respect to higher R-value, enhanced cold temper- ature use, and lower off-gassing of compounds, says senior engineer John Broniek. Offering products that lead in R-value per inch performance is a main focus for Icynene's Canadian customers, he adds. The use of spray foam insulation has increased in commercial projects over recent years, says Broniek. "The performance and cost benefits of using spray foam insulation in commercial projects are becoming more well known to architects," says Broniek. "The ability to use a cost-effective product that acts as insulation and an air barrier is very appealing since schedule times can be reduced and assembly energy efficiency increased. In addition, greater use of medium density, closed cell, spray foam insulation is occurring in exte- rior continuous insulation wall applications." Durex Quant um Select, Durabond Product s Limited's main featured system, is a high-perfor- mance EIFS cladding featuring a 10-millimetre geo- metrically defined drainage cavity. It is engineered to provide drainage and accelerated drying of inciden- tal moisture in the wall, while retaining maximum insulation value through the reduction of convection. Durex Quantum 5.0 is Durabond's premium EIFS sys- tem, which features high-density EPS with an R-Value of five per inch when measured at -18-degrees Celsius. An area that has been getting greater overall use and attention over recent years is the rooftop of buildings. "Rooftops have been transforming into actively used spaces with higher foot traffic," says Mirza Hodzic, national brand marketing manager, Firestone Building Products Canada. "The extra building real estate is uti- lized as rooftop gardens and patios. However, all this would not be possible without a strong and durable roofing system. Fully adhered RubberGard EPDM or UltraPly TPO roofing systems – which can be war- ranted for up to 30 years - offer great strength while being lightweight and eco-friendly." Cover boards are becoming a standard for high performance roof assemblies too, says Hodzic. "It's a crucial component for the longevity of the roof and is mandatory for roof systems that are warranted by up to 30 years by industry leaders," says Hodzic. "To account for the extra foot traffic, high density cover boards are used to protect the roof assembly below the membrane. In addition, special walkway pads, which provide extra protection along with additional friction on a roof, are also being utilized."
