J im Bond has been involved in com- mercial, retail and residential develop- ment and construction for 35 years in Alberta and British Columbia. He is the founder and CEO of Vancouver-based Ventana Construction. Bond has been actively involved from beginning to end in public-private partnerships and design-build projects, which include Prospera Centre in Chilliwack, Langley Events Centre and Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. What's your favourite car? My favourite car is the Cadillac Escalade. Why do you choose DueckGM? I have a long relationship with Dueck when it comes to construction and vehicles. Also, I love the GM lineup of cars. What are the keys to Ventana Construction's success? Everyone at Ventana focuses on providing the best service possible on every project— from the initial meeting with the client all the way through to occupancy. They see and appreciate our high quality of service, which is proven by the fact that more than two thirds of our business is from repeat clients or referrals from existing clients. What excites you the most about the future of your industry? Our broad base of construction work allows us to apply innovative solutions, knowledge of materials and depth of experience to projects in a wide range of sectors. How would you describe your leadership style? My style is to be open, friendly and approachable. What are three must-haves for a memorable road trip? I would say water, music and sunshine. What is your favourite quote? It would be this quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to appreciate beauty; to nd the best of others; to leave the world a bit better… To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." What would you say is your mantra at Ventana Construction? We are solution-oriented and collaborative, and ensure everyone on the project team works together to make the project a success. What's one of your favourite restau- rants in the city? La Querica in Kitsilano is amazing. Does your iconic name get a lot of attention? Yes. It always brings a smile to people's faces, and I have fun with it. When you're driving, what music can we expect to hear playing on your radio? It would either be the Eagles or some country music.
