Best Wineries DESTINATIONS Jamen Rhodes, Julie Pringle FALL 2016 BCA A .COM 19 TIP! Wine tasting? Plan ahead for a safe ride and don't get behind the wheel. Six new Okanagan wineries to visit this fall BY JENNIFER COCKRALL-KING Grapes Fresh-Picked What's a wine lover to do when the Okanagan scene keeps growing and getting better with every season? Well, plan an annual trip to seek out the newest and most intriguing wineries. And 2016 has yielded a bumper crop. Here are six where the paint is barely dry, but the buzz is strong and the wines are must-taste. Play Estate Winery, Penticton Perched on a slope overlooking Skaha Lake, Play Estate Winery is a destination as much for its gorgeous setting as for its long marble tasting bar. And despite the whimsical name, its food and wine are seriously good. The 2014 Ad Lib, a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, is the perfect companion to the bistro's coq au vin, while Applause – a Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc blend – is a happy match for the braised short rib risotto. playwinery.com Kitsch Wines, Kelowna The new Kelowna winery on everyone's lips this year is Kitsch Wines. Owners Trent and Ria Kitsch, whose family has been in Kelowna since 1919, are committed to producing wines that "embody the rich soils and sun-soaked valleys" of the Okanagan. Sitting on one of the most stunning views in the valley, the Kitsch tasting room is the family's garage – but, oh, what an impressive and art-filled garage! And the wines are delicious: Kitsch's Pinot Gris is classic Central Okanagan, with aromas of pear, apple and bright citrus. The Riesling has a mouth- watering minerality, while the Pinot Noir is silky and sexy. kitschwines.ca Little Engine Wines, Penticton.
