Cote 1978-1984 A founding member of the Reform Party, the late Paul Cote was instrumental in creating SFU's engineer- ing science faculty without government support—a feat honoured with a scholarship in his name. K. GeorGe Pedersen 1979-1983 With a career in public edu- cation that spanned 49 years (he was president or vice-pres- ident at six Canadian uni- versities), George Pedersen was an outspoken activist against government cuts to public education. WilliaM G. sayWell 1983-1993 With a doctorate in East Asian Studies, William Saywell also served as the first sinologist and cultural attaché to the Canadian Embassy in Beijing. His decade with SFU lives on in the naming of Saywell Hall. WilliaM HaMilton 1984-1987 William Hamilton served as post- master general in the Diefen- baker government in 1957, and was also a member of the SFU board of governors before he became chancellor and estab- lished the William M. Hamilton Scholarship for students. BarBara J. rae 1987-1993 Barbara Rae enjoyed a trifecta of firsts as SFU's sixth chancellor: she was the first female EMBA grad, the first SFU alumni chancellor and the Univer- sity's first female chancellor. Her legacy is recognized in the nam- ing of the Barbara Rae residence at SFU's Burnaby campus. JoHn o. stuBBs 1993-1997 During John Stubbs' tenure at SFU, he kicked off the much-lauded UniverCity development process with the City of Burnaby, seeing plans come to fruition that had been a part of architect Arthur Erickson's original vision for the campus in 1963. Brandt C. louie 2005-2011 A 2015 winner of the EY Family Business of Excellence Award, Brandt Louie is the chairman and CEO of H.Y. Louie Co. and chairman of London Drugs. He generously created the Chancellor Brandt C. Louie Legacy Fund, matching others' gifts to the fund. Carole taylor 2011-2014 A former journalist, politician and chair of many organiza- tions—including the CBC and the Vancouver Board of Trade— Carole Taylor, an officer of the Order of Canada, was B.C.'s minister of finance from 2005 to 2008.
