FEBRUA RY 2016 | 47 Security & Life Safety Systems broken narrow aluminum extrusions and filled with a proprietary fire blocking material to provide 20, 45, 60, 90 and 120 minute ratings for interior and exterior installation. Aluflam's clear fire-rated glazing is manufactured by Vetrotech Saint- Gobain, has large, wire-free glass areas, is a barrier to radiant heat, and offers excel- lent clarity and sound reduction. With brands including ASSA, Baron, Fleming Door, Securitron and Yale, ASSA ABLOY provides a full range of doors, hardware and access control technologies. The company's proficiency in meeting security needs is such that it even recently created a mobile tour in order to showcase products to security professionals and their customers. Among the products on display were Securitron's full line of Magnalocks, includ- ing the new sleek, low-profile esthetic M680 and M380 Series with integrated optional surveillance camera and motion sensor Request to Exit; and Securitron Power Management Solutions, including the new PowerJump ICPT that jumps power wirelessly across the door gap to electrify hardware on the door. ASSA ABLOY's association with Securitron is crucial in the company's delivery of security solutions. Securitron is renowned for its line of magnetic locks and also offers battery locks, digital entry systems, exit control buttons, exit delay systems and motion detectors. DORMA, which this year merged with Kaba to form dorma+kaba Group (touted as one of the top three companies in the world for security and access solutions), is another example of a company that manufacturers high-quality hardware designed with security in mind and that is accessible to a huge range of customers. Its locks and key systems, heavy-duty panic and fire-rated exit devices, along with electronic access control, are widely used by hotels and are standard in arenas. One of DORMA's latest offerings is its D900 small case mortise dead bolt, perfect as a primary lock on restrooms, locker room doors, storage closets and as a second- ary locking device when higher security is needed. The D900 is typical of DORMA in that it is affordable, convenient and easy to install. Available in standard cylin- der, SFIC, and LFIC, it works well in both new construction and retrofit applications. As comprehensive as these products and services are, evolution in the security and life safety realm is fast and furious, and the immediate future promises lots of exciting developments, starting with NFC (mobility) technology. Long touted as the ultimate in access control, actual implementation has been slow due to complica- tions in loading identifiers onto the secure element that underscores mobile access. But this is rapidly changing thanks to more devices (the first being the iPhone 6 Plus) featuring NFC antennas. As mobility fully reaches its potential, access control via edge card capabilities are also being increasingly coveted, and manufacturers are responding by delivering plat- forms that have the power and flexibility necessary to provide advanced capabilities. Tyco's Redfern notes, "The advance of technology is amazing, and new avenues of opportunity constantly open up. For example, we are increasingly working with clients' IT infrastructure to meet their specific needs. This used to be a small aspect of our business, but it's a growing revenue stream." No matter the type of solution, one thing is certain: if end users think the most advanced technology is something they can acquire and use with ease today, they will be even more impressed when the next generation of products hits the market.
