Most of Hire a Santa's clients
are corporations, says
founder Rozmin Watson,
with daycares, malls and
schools also contract-
ing her jolly old
Saint Nicks. Her
Vancouver-based
agency represents
approximately 70 Santas
across Canada each year,
with the majority based in
the Lower Mainland. The
busiest period is the second
and third week in Decem-
ber, but clients start book-
ing after Labour Day. She
recruits all year long (with
training at "Santa school"
occurring in October) and
has started getting more
requests for elves and
Mrs. Claus as well.
Apart from advertis-
ing, Watson nds her
Santas by approaching
likely candidates as they're
coming out of malls, on the
street or at a functions and
trade shows. A good Santa
needs a twinkle in his eye,
she says. He also has to love
kids and be very patient.
