OCTOBER 2015 | 45 Tiles Mapei recently introduced Ultraflex LHT, a large and heavy tile mortar with polymer, to the Canadian market. "This product is for tiles that have at least one side greater than 15-inches long or heavy tiles that are five pounds/square foot or heavier and are installed on walls and floors," says Brian Pistulka, business develop- ment manager, Mapei. "Ultraflex LHT is a non-sag and non-slump product that can be used as a bond coat up to half-an-inch thick after the tile is embedded. It's really designed to aid the contractor in making his job more efficient when it comes to installing large-format tile, or heavy stone." Pistulka says because of its heavy body, it is called a thixotropic product. "That means when you initially mix the product it has a very heavy consistency, but when troweled the product becomes smooth and creamy similar to the properties of ketchup before shaking the bottle. It's a professional grade product that is in the mid-level range compared to the existing premium product in the high-end category of mortars," explains Pistulka. Ultraflex LHT is designed this way for two reasons: "You can set a heavy tile on a wall and it won't sag, or you can set a heavier large tile on the floor and it won't slump. That's what contractors are looking for to avoid lippage in the tile. We want them to know Ultraflex LHT is actually going to result in easier application and more productivity for the crew," says Pistulka. Level-Right Maxx, the next generation in self-levellers from Maxxon Corporation, offers a high strength, Portland cement-based self-levelling underlayment/overlay- ment designed to level, smooth and repair interior concrete in preparation of floor covering installation. Installed at a thickness of one-eighth of an inch to one-and-one-quarter inch, Level-Right Maxx provides a durable, smooth surface that is compatible with a variety of finished floor goods, including tile and stone mortars, flooring adhesives, and epoxy and polyurethane adhesives. "This moisture tolerant self-leveller is an ideal solution for special projects where the underlayment needs to be installed early in the construction process," says Nicole Hills, marketing manager. "And because it is self-drying, many floor goods can be installed within 24 to 48 hours after the pour." When sealed with a Maxxon-approved sealer, Level-Right Maxx can also be used as a wear surface, opening a spectrum of concrete-look finished floor possibilities.
