But Tisdale-based designer Garth Keays has obviously noticed the changing golf winds of the past decade or so. e links-style course in Warman doesn't just look linksy but employs the firm greens that characterize links golf. Lots of length and thick fescue rough help explain the course's popularity with golfers looking to challenge their games. 306-931-8814; golfthelegends.com 8 everGreeN Golf resort Three sets of tees to 6,539 yards ere's a bit of a split per- sonality here in Nipawin, as is often the case when a nine-holer from the Golden Age gets expanded to 18, as this one was by Alberta- based architect Les Furber. Both nines are appealing, though, and the course benefits from excellent conditioning and a friendly club- house. It also achieves a trick that many other well-forested courses would do well to learn, allowing recovery shots from a decent pro- portion of balls hit into the woods. 306-862-4811; evergreencentre.ca 9 saGe view Golf CluB Nine holes with three sets of tees to 2,980 yards Is this the most beautiful course in the province? ere will be no arguments here. e setting on the shores of Lake Diefenbaker, near Riverhurst, is spectacular, and the early-1990s design alters the landscape only minimally – perhaps even a little too minimally in the case of a couple of holes where fairly narrow landing areas are lined by dense, impenetrable sage. e variety of holes is impressive, but if nine just isn't enough, consider a drive (admit- tedly an hour or so) to the simi- larly set Saskatchewan Landing Golf Resort, which stretches to almost 6,900 yards and, in combination, makes for a really nice 27. 306-353-2065; sageviewgolfclub.com 10 MaiNprize reGioNal park aNd Golf Course Four sets of tees to 7,022 yards Austerity is rarely embraced as a design principle, but Ontario- based architect John F. Robinson is known for designing economi- cally sustainable courses, and one way to do that is to eschew frills. Sometimes that can produce dull golf, but ideal natural undula- tions, more than a few bunkers, big greens and ever-blowing wind ensure full concentration here. e course overlooks McDonald Lake, the reservoir created by the Raf- ferty-Alameda dam, and features one of the more appealing club- houses in the province. 306-458- 2452; mainprizepark.com.
