PowerSeries Neo. Aluflam fire resistant curtainwall system. 52 | A PR IL 2015 Security and Life Safety Systems PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY TYCO INTEGRATED FIRE & SECURITY; ALUFLAM With convenience being the driver of any security or life safety technological development, Tyco has also launched PowerSeries Neo, which is designed to reduce operational costs for dealers and provide ultimate reliability for commercial end users. Neo is comprised of a variety of control panels, a full suite of compatible wire- less devices (including a PIR motion detector with integrated camera, repeaters and glass break sensors), plus a complete line of expansion modules – all easy to use and even easier to install. The industry-leading wireless system ensures seamless communication between the control panel and devices, and advanced encryption technology guards against digital attacks. Additionally, Remote Diagnostics Software allows dealers to diagnose, inspect and maintain the system without having to travel to the cus- tomer's premises. "Neo was first unveiled with considerable success in the U.S and we are now leading with the product in Canada," says Dyk. Meanwhile at Aluflam, president Peter Lindgren doesn't deal with exotic threats like domestic terrorism and isn't involved in the high-tech realm of integration or interconnectivty. But his contribution to security and life safety is no less impres- sive and comes in the form of aluminum frames for fire rated glazing applications. In this regard, Aluflam has mastered what was long considered impossible, since aluminum is not known for its fire resistance properties. Fire rating is achieved due to the framing system being based on two extruded and thermally broken alumi- num profiles that are filled with a proprietary compound. In fire tests, the aluminum begins melting off on the exposed side of the frame, but the remaining construction retains its integrity. "Our curtainwall system works in a similar fashion, with the filler being contained within the structural member of the aluminum profile," says Lindgren. The framing systems also act as barriers to radiant heat transmission. The benefits of Aluflam's products are twofold: superior fire resistance – impor- tant at a time when, more than ever, glazing is used extensively to bring natural daylight into interior spaces – as well as esthetic appeal. "Older systems use stain- less steel profiles that are clunky and stand out in the design of any building," says Lindgren. "But with ours and other modern systems, the average person will have a tough time telling fire-rated windows apart from conventional non-rated ones. This gives architects much greater latitude when it comes to designing new structures." A MegalithMgmtLtd.indd 1 14-12-09 2:53 PM
