30 | A PR IL 2015 Steel Building Systems A conventional steel second floor mezzanine covers 4,044 square feet and holds offices, a financing area and additional storage. Vicwest Building Products' FASSADE insulated metal wall system was selected for the exterior walls of the Canada Games Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia over a traditional sandwich wall. Vicwest says FASSADE not only lowers building energy costs but reduces the car- bon footprint of the building. The FASSADE insulated wall system is engineered to comply with the R-value and thermal bridging require- ments of ASHRAE 90.1 energy standards and Ontario building code standard SB-10. Unlike traditional insu- lation systems, FASSADE doesn't require multi-piece field assemblies, which saves installation time. The high-performance core is an alternative to con- ventional air and moisture barrier systems, and sup- ports horizontal and vertical cladding systems. To obtain a range of looks and finishes, users can install any of Vicwest's cladding products and archi- tectural aluminum panels. For the Canada Games Centre, the architect paired FASSADE with Vicwest's 7/8-inch corrugated metal panels, the wavy surface providing a visual contrast to the smooth glass of the centre's large windows. Honco Steel Buildings, which specializes in design- ing and building large, clear-span recreational and industrial buildings, has just completed a building in Eastern Europe with a clear span of 90 metres. It is adjacent to another Honco building with a clear span of 60 metres Carole Lacasse, VP of sales and marketing, says Honco takes every opportunity to push building design limits. "It has allowed us to obtain a contract to build an 88-metre clear-span indoor soccer fieldhouse in one of the coldest city in the world," says Lacasse. Honco is the design-builder of a leading-edge tech- nology arena in Levis, Quebec, called Complexe 2 gla- ces Honco. The two NHL-size ice rinks are built with the flat roofs and include a two-storey service building. Honco also supplied and installed a building for American Iron & Metal. "Our client was looking for a facility with large clear spans and fast delivery," says Lacasse. "Other large-scale projects, such as 90-metre- wide aircraft hangars, are on the drafting table at the moment and should be shipped later this year."
