the story: Lizzy Karp
credits her outsider status in
helping her become an "acci-
dental" entrepreneur. Born in
Salt Lake City to an American
father and Canadian mother,
Karp defected north during
the George W. Bush years,
studying English at the Uni-
versity of Toronto. She moved
to Vancouver in 2009, where
she took a public relations
program at
SFU and immedi-
ately became a mainstay in
the city's cultural scene with
her launch of the popular
storytelling event Rain City
Chronicles. After approach-
ing the Waldorf Hotel as a
potential venue for Rain
City, the former operators
of the east side institution
hired her as their marketing
and cultural programmer.
That led to a job with ad
agency Village & Co., and in
2012 she went solo with her
own marketing and com-
munications company; her
event firm, Here There, was
established in 2014 following
her successful reinvention of
Vancouver's Chinatown Night
Market.

Who inspires me to suCCeed
" Ira Glass. The charming face of 'new storytelling,'
Ira is constantly pushing the boundaries of his
own job—producing a radio show, live version of
that show and more. He is dedicated, wise and
humble, and doesn't seem to settle"
