L u k a s p e e t PrinciPal , luk as Peet design; co - Founder , andlight age: 27 the story: Lukas Peet named the first of his designs to be commercially produced—the Rudi light, made by New York lighting company Roll & Hill—after his father, a goldsmith who emigrated to Canada from the Netherlands. Although he spent his early years in Van- couver, Peet grew up mainly in Banff and Canmore before attending Design Academy Eindhoven in the Nether- lands. He founded Lukas Peet Design (through which he designed the Rudi light) in 2009, shortly before return- ing to Vancouver to work with architecture firm RUF- project designing Nike retail concepts. In late 2014, Peet and partners Matt Davis and Caine Heintzman launched Andlight, a Vancouver-based contemporary lighting design company. Lighting appeals to Peet because it can alter the mood of a room or an environment—"and with my father being a goldsmith, it's similar to jewellery for your space." Through Lukas Peet Design, he has designed the interior of the Livestock apparel flagship store in Vancouver and will start on the Toronto store this year. He also designs products for companies such as Umbra Shift, which focuses on contemporary design (the first run of 3,000 Asymmetri- cal Candle Holders sold out worldwide in the first four months, and a set of drinking glasses is in the works). Markers oF success: Revenues for Lukas Peet Design have doubled each year since the company was founded in 2009; and since Andlight launched in Novem- ber 2014, sales have tripled. Andlight products are carried by Inform Interiors in Van- couver, another distributor is being finalized in Toronto, and the company expects to expand to the U.S. in 2015 and Europe in 2016. Peet has received numerous design accolades including Wallpa- per Magazine Next Genera- tion Designer, RBC emerging designer and Western Living Designer of the Year. —F.S.
