When asked to qualify its own relationship with other industry players, FICOM said in a written statement that, "[FICOM] works closely with a range of partners including industry associations, other real estate and financial regulators, law enforcement, education providers, and the public. Our office places great importance on these relationships." Industry associations MBABC and MBIBC also place great importance on their relationships with FICOM, says MBABC/ MBIBC CEO Samantha Gale and MBIBC president Rob Regan-Pollock. "It's all about communication," says Gale. "The more we communicate our important issues, consumer issues for example, the better able we are to represent our industry and for the regulator to act on those issues." Regan-Pollock says B.C. was the first Canadian province to regulate mortgage brokers and has the best reputation and lowest incidence of fraud in the country. • B.C. has one of the highest licensing standards for mortgage brokers in Canada.
