"As a sports enthusiast it is wonderful to be part of the project that brings major sports back to the centre of the Ottawa community," says Brian Webster, principal at Stantec Geomatics in Ottawa and project manager. Stantec's Water, Transportation and Community Development teams provided civil engineering services to the City of Ottawa's landscape architects, specifically in the areas of design site services including water mains, sanitary sewers, storm drainage and water reuse for irrigation, site grading and drainage, stormwater management, material risk management and construction administration. The company's Buildings Engineering team provided the site electrical engi- neering to accommodate new power service, specialized site lighting, art features, stage systems and communications requirements. The same team will provide the material risk management and construction administration for the electrical design. Stantec's Buildings team also provided residential and commercial build- ings engineering services for the concrete/mortar testing and inspections related to structural steel, building envelope (precast panels, vapour barrier, waterproof- ing, curtain wall and roofing), fire protection and acoustical analysis. The site challenges were primarily matters of access, co-ordination and sequenc- ing. Work on the massive 1,600-space parking garage and the foundations of all the site's new buildings needed to be mostly complete before surface grade work could begin. With such a large demand for concrete, Pomerleau arranged with Lafarge to have a batch concrete plant installed on site. "There's close to 150,000 cubic metres of concrete there so that would have been a lot of transportation to co-ordinate," says Pomerleau, adding that while they still needed to have the aggregate and concrete delivered, they could make up batches of concrete as needed and only required a few trucks to move it around the site. By July of 2014, eight years and eight months since CFL football had last been played there, the Ottawa RedBlacks ran onto the field while fans drove, rode and walked back to Lansdowne. In conclusion, John Krug, Stantec Ottawa's office leader says, "We're helping to create a community that we can all be proud of, now and in the future. Our Stantec Ottawa team is proud to be a part of the redevelopment of a major community land- mark such as Lansdowne Park." A TD Place at Lansdowne Park MegalithMgmtLtd.indd 1 14-12-09 2:53
