FEBRUARY 2015 | 25 Appliances With oven doors that open in the middle versus at the top, this handy design lets users stand closer to the oven when lifting items in and out, while maintaining distance from hot doors. Both doors open simultaneously for added convenience and the unique door style requires less space in front of the oven, making it ideal for smaller kitchens. The oven features true European convection with the Direct Air system that envelops food, delivering evenly cooked results. The theatre-style LED interior lighting helps to visually gauge cooking status. This is GE's largest French door wall oven, with a capacity of five cubic feet. Since 1954 Tasco has focused on the most discriminating homeowners. With rapid population expansion in recent years, in what has been dubbed as the Golden Horseshoe area of Ontario, there has been tremendous growth in higher-end mass-market appliances. As such, Tasco has expanded its focus to realize market demands. Lately much innovation has actually come in the premium segment. One unique product is the Lynx Smart Grill, which will be released this year. This Smart Grill is voice controlled and question driven. "The grill asks a series of questions and connects to an online database to program the grill," says Cerrone Nanadal, product manager. "Instruction is given to the person grilling as to where to place the items. A Smartphone App monitors cooking times and temperatures, enabling the chef to socialize with guests, or tend to other duties. SMS text messages notify when food is ready." Also on Tasco's menu is La Cornue's range line that offers the ultimate in luxury, customization and unique design. With close to 30 colours and over a dozen trim options, customers looking for a truly one-of-a-kind product can configure a unit to their exact specifications. With mass production out of the equation, exclusivity comes at a cost. Expect $8,000 to $50,000 for most standard configurations. "My personal favourite, La Cornue finish, is pebbled steel," says Nanadal. "I suppose it's contradic- tory to having 30 non-steel finishes. Still, it is quite unique and has a similar effect to a hammered metal finish, commonly found on jewellery, or high-end home fixtures." As small footprints in kitchens continue to be the norm, Euro-Line Appliances continues to revolutionize the small kitchen. The unique Kompakt Kitchen features a four place setting dishwasher, sink and faucet, two-burner induction cooktop, glide-out range hood, speed oven and fridge/freezer, all in a six-foot space. "The European appliances complement the modern design of the kitchen for the greatest cooking experience possible," says Michelle Eglington, VP at Euro-Line Appliances West. "The Porter & Charles speed oven gives you the versatility and convenience of both a microwave oven and convection oven with a host of functions to meet your cooking needs." She adds the 12-inch, two-burner induction cooktop is truly unique and finished with beveled edges and touch controls. Induction cook- tops offer fast and responsive cooking, are child-safe, save energy and easy to clean. The Porter & Charles compact dishwater is available in fully integrated or stain- less steel finish. At only 18-inches high and 24-inches wide, it features a stainless steel interior tank and near silent operation using less water and energy. The accom- panying Franke sink is undermounted combined with a modern faucet. Also available within the compact offerings is the Liebherr 24-inch, fully inte- grated fridge/freezer that is ergonomically designed to provide ample storage room and ultimate freshness. "Our European appliances marry small footprints, sleek design and green manufacturing with large capacities to maximize any space, or provide a secondary kitchen," says Eglington.
