S Seat Yourself A perfect mArriAge of clAssic elegAnce, performAnce And ergonomics by Laurie Jones Sophistication, performance and high-def- inition technology are key words to describe the latest offerings from contract seating manufacturers. Global Total Office has rolled out its Cadillac of chairs with the luxurious G20. Wide, sweeping cast aluminum lines with delicate edge details are carefully integrated with stylized nylon components to create a crisp, simple profile. "The G20 has a very high-end look but it's also extremely comfortable," says Roy Klinkhammer, direc- tor of seating. "Some of the technology that's built into this chair is light years ahead of what's currently in the marketplace. It appeals to people who have a need for high function but it is also meant to satisfy some very sensitive design tastes." The stylish mesh back of the G20 – available in black or the white, G20 Cloud – is made with a high percent- age of elastomeric materials. "When you lean into the back, it stretches and changes shape to evenly support your body from the top of your shoulders to the bot- tom of your spine," says Klinkhammer. "Adding to the comfort factor are adjustable armrests that slide side to side to narrow the space between the arms, or adjust forward to give support to someone with long arms." Klinkhammer says the mechanism of this chair is a first of its kind. "When the seat reclines the front does not lift up at all, instead, the back of the chair lowers down. This design means there is no restriction to lower legs by the seat lifting. You can sit and work in this chair for hours without compromising circulation." In the summer of 2014, Teknion Corporation launched its new Sabrina synchro-tilt mesh task chair. With its sleek design, this chair is the perfect marriage of classic elegance, performance and ergo- nomics. "Sabrina was inspired by Giugiaro Design's philosophy based on the structure of the human body, and symbolizes the infinite interconnection of com- fort and design," says Chris Dominik, director, prod- uct management. "It features an innovative inner ring structure, organic frame design and mesh backrest. The iconic inner ring provides support and backwards bending while the outer frame allows torsional flexing. The ring's streamlined shape is mirrored in the head- rest and lumbar element." Sabrina meets today's growing need for a 300- pound (136 kg) weight capacity. Optional extras include a headrest with co-ordinating tensile struc- tured mesh for beauty, support and comfort; coat hanger; and adjustable lumbar support. Mesh colours were selected by Teknion textiles creative director Suzanne Tick and include Basalt, Chainlink, Phospho- rous and Iron. Upholstery fabrics from the Teknion Textiles collection are applicable on the seat. SIMO Corporation has teamed up with Via Seating in Canada to introduce a state-of-the-art chair that addresses headline news. Research has found that sit- ting for eight to 10 hours a day could lead to obesity and diabetes. Therefore, creating opportunities that encourage employees to move more at work during the day is more important than ever. To alleviate this issue, Via has created a new cate- gory they call "motion seating" and has partnered with German manufacturer aeris GmbH, that has developed seating solutions which offer multi-dimensional move- ment while seated. "In addition to the swopper stool that offers three dimensions of motion, two other motion products have been added," says Sandra Bowie, director of sales and marketing for Via Motion Seat- ing. "A variable height sit/stand stool called muvman – perfect for height adjustable tables and employees who must stand for long periods of time – and a more mainstream looking motion chair called 3Dee, which incorporates swopper details along with a back with adjustable lumbar." When Borgo Contract Seating launched its bronze award-winning Privée seat at IIDEX, the furniture became architecture at the show. "Privée's com- patible components have been designed to offer endless combinations and ease of use, generating new ideas to manage space and meet different needs with modular and repositionable pieces," says Lucas Spassiani, design strategist. "The canopy that encloses the Privée solves the issue of acoustical distractions allowing people to participate in conversation, make private phone calls, or listen to music.
