MortgageBroker mbabc.ca fall 2014 | 7 Strategy update as MBABC prepares to celebrate its silver anniversary report from the president WelCoMe to the FAll 2014 iSSue of Mortgage Broker magazine. Since my last message the Mortgage Brokers Association of BC has held its annual elections and I'm pleased to welcome the new Board of Directors, (see page 12): Jason Suttie (Treasurer), Loren Hawkins (Secretary), Troy Resvick (Vice President), Chana Charach, Kelly Curtis, Bruce Kahkesh, Kevin Oyhenart, Deenu Patel, Tiffany Pedersen and Deb White. I thank outgoing board members Karl Madsen and Megan McDonald for their hard work over the last year. I am honoured to serve as your MBABC President for another year. e incoming board had its annual strategic planning session on September 30, 2014. At this session every member of the board has the opportunity to give his/her input into the strategic objectives they would like to see MBABC achieve in the next 12 months, and in the longer term. We had a robust session and focused on key areas the board will work on in the coming months. One of the most important messages to come out of this strategic planning session was the word, "engage." A quick online search for the definition of the word returns, "to occupy, attract or involve" and "to participate or become involved in." If I could sum up one idea that came out of this session then "engage," as explained by the preceding definitions, would be it. ose members who attended the session agreed that we want to facilitate the involvement of mortgage brokers and the mortgage industry with the MBABC. In other words, we want to "ENGAGE" you to become active and more involved in what the MBABC does for you and what you can do for the MBABC. I have said this on numerous occasions: the MBABC provides its members with many great services and its members also have a lot to offer MBABC. e exciting new programs we have planned for the future will further enhance your membership. Where we haven't done as good a job as we should have is in communicating the value of the MBABC to our primary stakeholders, the mortgage brokers and the industry. So expect us to interact with those of you who are members – and who aren't members – even more in the coming year. We also welcome any ideas you may have about how to effectively communicate the important role the MBABC plays in the province's economic landscape. MBABC staff and board members are available to discuss what the association can do for you, your individual office or your company. We plan to roll out a series of presentations that we can share at your next sales meeting or professional day. I am certain that once you " ENGAGE" with us you will be amazed at the real value of MBABC membership. Our major event of the year, the annual MBABC Conference and Tradeshow, will be held on February 23 and 24, 2015. We received rave reviews of the 2014 event at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond; many of you said it was the best tradeshow you had ever attended. e 2015 event, booked at the same venue, will be no different. We will also celebrate another very important milestone in 2015: MBABC will mark its 25th anniversary. As you can see from the cover of this magazine, it will be a "Silver Screen"-themed event to coincide with our silver anniversary. e lineup will be excellent and there will be lots of excitement as we roll out our speakers and events in the coming months. I encourage everyone to register for the tradeshow and make the 25th anniversary show a record-breaking event. Feel free to contact the MBABC office, any of the board members or me if you have any comments or feedback. ■ Ajay Soni President ajaysoni@mbabc.ca
