CEOs In Cars videos powered by
BCBusiness writer Steve Burgess drives
around in high-performance cars with British
Columbia's equally high-performing CEOs.
The latest episode stars…
H
e is the CEO of Browns
Socialhouse,
but his name
is not Scott
Brown.
After leaving Cactus
Club, the chain he
founded with Richard
Ja• ray, Scott Morison
sought a name for his new
restaurant chain by opening the
phone book and pointing to a
name at random. Twice. "I really
don't remember the ‚ rst name I
chose," Morison says. Su„ ce to say
Ratzhaus Socialhouse or Di• enda• er
Socialhouse would not have been
ideal, so Morison gave himself a
do-over. The second time his ‚ nger
landed on Brown, which suited
Morison just ‚ ne. Now Browns
social houses are all over the
Lower Mainland, northern
BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan,
Manitoba and Ontario.
Browns o• ers an appealing
version of premium casual
dining with a menu that
ranges from burgers through Asian
specialities. Expansion has been
rapid thanks to MUDAs (Multiple
Unit Development Agreements) that
call for franchisees to open 10 or
more locations in a city. Morison
predicts hundreds of Ontario
locations in coming years including
new chains that will give Browns
franchisees the luxury of competing
with themselves. Despite all the
expansion he assures the company
will preserve a philosophy of
consistency and quality, or his name
is not Scott something-or-other.
