THINK PINK 2013 The 2013 Pink Salmon Festival educated the public about Pink salmon as a sustainable and desirable seafood choice with interactive educational activities as well as a Pink salmon barbeque donated by Goldseal/Can sco and prepared by chefs Ronnie Shewchuk, Robert Clarke and Garrett Schack. Port Metro Vancouver and Newalta provided key sponsorship. CKNW and Rebel Communications also supported with media and print sponsorship. U.S.-CANADA COLLABORATION The Salish Sea Marine Survival Project is partnership at its best, bringing together more than 20 NGOs, government agencies, universities, tribes and First Nations, other non-pro ts, and independent scientists from both U.S. and Canada. Paci c Salmon Foundation supporters showed their passion for the project by contributing to the most successful year-end appeal to date in 2013, raising nearly $64,000. Sonora Resort was an exemplary supporter with a year-end donation of $12,500. Other luminaries include Goldcorp staffer Kaeli Gattens, who donated $5,000 won through a staff logo and tagline competition. Doug Andrews also gave $5,000 through his snow-management company. His company donates to a different charity every year-end; as a resident of the Adams River system and an avid sherman, Andrews chose a cause close to home for 2013. 20 2014 psf.ca Photo above: Volunteers supported by the Foundation in the Gold River on Vancouver Island. EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES The Community Salmon Program funds volunteers who undertake salmon and habitat projects. It provides expertise, application support and technical advice. Most importantly, it empowers communities by encouraging volunteers to nd matching local donations for projects. TimberWest has been a key supporter of the program since 2002, with total contributions of almost $900,000. Last year, TimberWest supported 27 community salmon projects with more than $99,000 in donations. Volunteers leveraged the funds an average of seven times to create an impact of almost $700,000 for salmon. STRATEGIC BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS The Vancouver Major Donors Circle is a group of business and community leaders from Vancouver that provides strategic direction and nancial support through personal donations. The Wolrige Foundation is one standout success story, donating $10,000 per year for the community salmon programs since 2012, in addition to supporting efforts to help raise more funds. ■ p20-21Supporter Spotlights.indd 21 14-04-16 3:00 PM
