Trisan Centre, Schomberg, Ontario. COURTESY BEHLEN INDUSTRIES manager for the ICI market in Canada, says Vicwest is launching two new environmentally-sensitive products this year: FASSADE insulated wall system and Expressence premium coated metal. FASSADE is engineered to comply with strin- gent R-Value and thermal bridging requirements for steel framed walls, but without compromising the builders' ability to achieve their creative vision for a building's exterior. The product's insulated panel core eliminates the inefficiencies of multi-piece field assemblies. That saves installation time and labour costs, eliminates thermal bridging and provides maximum thermal efficiency. Vicwest's Expressence is a premium coated metal building product. Macnab says the Wood Series "fuses the timeless beauty of wood with the durability of metal." Expressence is compliant with traditional metal fabrication and installation methods, and offers cost savings on materials, installation and maintenance. Robertson Building Systems Limited adds that, as the demand for environmentally-friendly construction products and practices increases, it has become a leader in promoting innovation and consultation in the use of metal construction products and processes. For example, Robertson offers insulated metal panels ( IMPs) for roof and wall applications. When used as part of a construction project, IMPs can improve a building's energy efficiency. Buildings using effective insulation systems have long-term impacts on the environment because they can reduce energy consumption. The reduction in energy used contributes to a reduction in energy costs. Gail Read, Robertson marketing manager, says IMPs contribute to LEED certifica- tion programs and help move today's buildings toward the end goal of net-zero energy. "But those are not the only reasons that architects and contractors are choosing Robertson IMPs for their high-end projec t s," says Read. "The building needs to look good, too." Available in many attrac- tive st yles, pat terns and colours, Rober t son IMP 's consist of two single-skin metal panels with a foam core with which to achieve the desired thermal value. "The panels attach to the structure with concealed clips, which elimi- nates thermal short circuits and forms a continuous air barrier," adds Read. "The superior airtightness prevents cold air from getting into a building in the winter and helps keep hot air out in the summer months. Winter and summer, IMPs can help reduce operational costs." Butler Manufacturing is another company that offers a wide variety of building solutions and an insulation system that uses thermal spacer blocks to significantly improve the energy efficiency of the building envelope. According to Chris Ripley, Cana- dian regional sales manager for Butler, the company introduced the SunLite Strip daylighting system in late 2012 to promote the benefits of daylighting and energy efficiency in response to stricter building code standards that are being added in Canada and the U.S. "The SunLite Strip daylighting system adds natural daylight, energy savings and occupant comfort to any Butler building that features the MR-24 standing seam roof system," says Ripley. "Butler has partnered with Sunoptics, which manufactures the prismatic dome, to offer this innovative daylighting option." The SunLite Strip can reduce lighting costs by up to 70 per cent when integrated with lighting control systems. It can be installed in one third of the time of traditional curb-mounted systems and can reduce roof penetrations by 30 per cent. Another Butler environmentally-friendly product is its ThermaLiner Insulation System ( TLS) – a state- of-the-art insulated roof liner system that is used exclusively with Butler roof systems. Ripley says the TLS provides superior thermal efficiency. Multiple layers of insulation saves on heating and cooling costs and enhanced acoustic characteristics reduce noise pollution. ■ © BEHLEN Industries LP 2014 INDUSTRIAL | COMMERCIAL | RECREATIONAL | INSTITUTIONAL Architectural FLEXIBILITY Unmatched Versatility GET YOUR PERFECT FIT.
