april 2014 BCBusiness 59 Eric Diep Co-founder, A Thinking Ape Technologies Inc. Age: 29 A t 22, Eric Diep dropped out of the University of Waterloo and booked a one-way flight to San Francisco. A software developer persistently in search of creative freedom and owner- ship, he gained traction developing Facebook apps and quizzes before he met Kenshi Arasaki and Wilkins Chung, fellow Canadian expats working at Amazon. The trio established A Think- ing Ape, a mobile-game company, and qualified for Y Combinator, a Mounta- inview, California, accelerator whose graduates include AirBnB, Reddit and Dropbox, among other companies. Fast- forward five years, and the company has relocated to Vancouver, and has 60 employees at its Gastown office. —J.P.
