Thank you for this article ("Canada
Capitulates on
FATCA Agreement,"
bcbusiness.ca/ nance). I don't think I
can add anything more to it other than
to say that it is startling that the Harper
government is so concerned about re-
election that it would secretly negotiate
the surrender of the rights of a group of
Canadian voters comprising the size of
Calgary. I also see that not only are the
million Canadians with U.S. blood or ties
a ected, but so are their spouses and
all of their business partners. I have to
rethink whether I can have a U.S. busi-
ness partner sharing my joint accounts,
which will certainly limit employment
and business opportunities for Canadi-
ans with U.S. ties. I think the Conserva-
tives need to be called on this one. By
the way, one of the architects of this deal
is Kerry Lynn Findlay—our revenue min-
ister and MP in Delta-Richmond East—
and I think local Vancouverites need to
call her to account.

Thank you for the well-balanced report-
ing on
FATCA and its unintended con-
sequences for Canadian citizens. The
privacy and constitutional issues here
are huge, and a ect every Canadian,
regardless of birthplace.
