Yael Cohen Founder and CEO, Fuck Cancer Age: 27 S outh African-born Cohen deviated from what seemed like a clearcut career path in the fast-paced world of finance after watching her mother struggle with cancer. When her mother went into remission, Cohen created a T-shirt for her with the unapolo- getic phrase "Fuck Cancer" written across the chest, and her passion project was born. Splitting her time between Vancouver and Los Angeles, the CEO and CCF (chief cancer fucker) is spreading the message of early detection far and wide. Carefully curated partnerships with celebs such as British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and the comedy web- site Funny or Die prove that what she lacks in age she more than makes up for in the ability to get people talking. And her work has been noticed. With invitations to the Next Generation Leader- ship Conference at the White House and appearances on lists such as Fast Company's 100 Most Creative People in Business, this up-and-comer will likely keep racking up the high-profile acco- lades. —L.P. bcbusiness.ca april 2014 BCBusiness 51 fuck cancer p38-67_30Under30_april.indd 51 14-03-07 2:04 PM
