"They're the earrings of the kitchen," she laughs. "It's the bling, the finishing touch." Kitchen sinks are an opportunity to get a little splashy; apron front is the preferred style to showcase fabulous granite and copper. Robinson's selection of European brands offers a wide choice, whether you're ready to make a big statement or are looking for cool minimalism. Krystin Lee, public relations with Masco Canada, agrees that white kitchens are a classic option, but points to polished chrome accents as the new trend for 2014. "Unexpected pops of colour within the kitchen are also trending as we see finishes such as Champagne Bronze, matte black or white become more popular with customers." As freestanding tubs grow in popularity, complimentary accessories are a necessity. Delta Faucet Canada and Brizo are launching sleek new tub fillers for freestanding tubs this year, designed with easy installation in mind and equipped with pivoting hand showers. But it's H2OKinetic Technology is the true innovation for Delta Faucet Canada. "Each showerhead contains an internal system that controls the speed movement and droplet size, sculpting water into a unique wave pattern, giving you the feeling of more water without using more," Lee explains. Axor's ongoing collaboration with acclaimed designer Philippe Starck, has expanded to include a new collection called Starck Organic. The line prioritizes low water consumption as well, and does it all in a stunning modern style. In the commercial sector, design has taken its cues from the upscale residential market, believes Rosalind Daschuk, marketing coordinator for the commercial systems brand at Franke Kindred Canada Ltd. "We are moving forward in the direction of a more refined design while still maintaining the functionality of free-draining sinks and basins. This results in products bearing more angles and an overall move toward more geometric shapes." These shapes aren't just esthetically pleasing; reshaped sink bottoms provide better drainage and waste locations are less likely to splash and spread bacteria. "The look and functionality overall is hygienic and smart whereas previously it was enough to be functional," explains Daschuk. Franke's non-porous stainless steel sinks have long been admired for their durability and cleanliness, so it's no surprise the company has created Canada's first-to- market Canadian Standards Association compliant hand hygiene basin."Franke's basins represent solid research and development, superior engineering, and an 'above-and- beyond' approach to the latest requirements," says Daschuk. When it comes to plumbing fixtures and accessories, what's behind the walls counts too, as IPEX knows only too well. As manufacturers of thermoplastic piping, the company is well-versed in creating high-quality, solution- driven and innovative piping products. "Many engineers and contractors are converting from traditional metal piping systems to the superior quality and features of thermoplastic piping," points out Paul Agapito, marketing project manager for IPEX. Thermoplastic piping has a number of benefits including better flow, a low rate of thermal conductivity, high corrosion resistance, plenum/high- rise products, lightweight handling and ease of installation. From automated faucets to high-tech behind-the-scenes materials, 2014 looks to be an exciting year for the world of plumbing. n february 2014 /15 Plumbing Products p14-15PlumbingProd.indd 15 14-01-22 10:18 AM
