With major storms pounding the East Coast and blizzards blanketing the Prairies, it almost feels smug to share photos of balmy winter Seawall walks on our Instagram. But even with 2013 being one of Vancouver's driest years on record, the soggy start to 2014 is a reminder that when it pours here on the Wet Coast, it can get you down. So we decided to challenge ourselves in this month's issue to nd the best ways to enjoy the city at this time of year. Whether you want to hide out and escape winter or get out and embrace it, we've rounded up plenty of things to do – indoor and outdoor, indulgent and inexpensive, cosy and adventurous – to help you make the most of the grey season. And if you're up for tackling outdoor activities, we've even got stylish rainwear recommendations that will keep you drier than a blue-tarped condo. It's not all about winter though. With Valentine's Day approaching, things warm up as we share insider tips on nding the sexiest Valentine's gifts, the most romantic dining experiences and the top date spots in the city. And we want to thank you, Vancouver, for your warm welcome of the inaugural BCLiving print edition. We've received fantastic feedback on our launch issue (see next page) and can't wait to hear what you think of this latest issue. Janine Verreault Editor, BCLiving jverreault@canadawide.com / @BCLiving Paul Joseph of Paul Joseph Photographs shot this month's cover story (p.52). The best part about these shoots is always the people. This time I met and photographed a Canadian heroine and the captain of my second favourite soccer team. They were both pros. My favourite romantic spot in the city is Seasons in the Park's patio. The views are great. Travel writer Claire Newell wrote this month's feature on weekend getaways (p.63). What I love most about winter in Vancouver is the fact that the local mountains are so close. The most romantic place in the city is anywhere my husband is. We love walking in Southlands, along Spanish Banks or having dinner on a waterfront restaurant patio. Barb Sligl wrote this month's feature on ski destinations (p.56). The best part about working on this piece was discovering new ski destinations. What I love most about winter in Vancouver is that we have easy access to plenty of the white stu and boast the mildest winters in Canada. I can go for a jog in Stanley Park then head to North Vancouver to go snowshoeing on Mount Seymour. Contributors p10-11_Ed+Contribs.indd 11 2014-01-20 4:03 PM
