Luxe

In heat and humidity, waterproof is the only way to go.
Melting makeup is neither pretty nor comfortable, so
choose products with a gel base for lightweight staying
power. Dual-purpose cosmetics like a gel blush/lip-colour
duo will do double duty without taking up more space in
your travel bag. Choose eye colours in a waterproof creme
formula, to achieve sheer colour that's beach appropriate
without running the risk of creasing. Waterproof mascara
and a flick of waterproof gel eyeliner will take you into the
evening with just enough drama and minimal effort.
And lastly, in a muggy climate, your hair will do things
you've never seen it do before, so a little Moroccan oil will
help smooth things out and keep any pesky flyaways in
place. With this short list of beauty products in your travel
case, your honeymoon will be time well spent with your
honey, not digging through your makeup stash. rw

Few things in life are as mesmerizing as a beautiful eye. No wonder
makeup artists love false lashes — they know this simple step can add instant drama.
But the downside to strip lashes is that they are only intended for one-day wear.
For a longer-term solution, lash extensions provide the fullness of a strip-lash look,
while also cutting down on makeup time. The process, if done properly by a qualified
technician, can take up to three hours, but the results are well worth it. Imagine
fluttering a lush set of lashes all honeymoon long without any eye makeup at all!
During the consultation, which should be booked at least one month before your
wedding day, the lash technician will assess the length, number and overall health of
your lashes. Depending on the look you want, the technician will determine the
diameter of lash to use, so as not to weigh down your natural lashes, which can cause
premature shedding. The technician will carefully isolate a single lash and use a
semi-permanent adhesive to apply the new lash directly to it. A few lashes can be
adhered to one natural lash, in a fan or flare to create volume.
Prices vary widely, with rates starting at $250 for a full set at Queen Bee Spa in
New Westminster (the volume set on our model is $350; queenbeespa.com). Keep in
mind that as lashes fall out naturally, you'll need to return for regular "fills."
Buyer beware: Many spas offer lash sets at a price that may sound too good to be
true. "Cluster" lashes are often used to achieve fullness and bypass the lengthy
application time. These lashes are intended to be removed at end of day and if kept on
longer can damage your lash line. A little research before you book never hurts.
